In Memoriam...

Sunday June 20th, Father's Day 2010, was the day in which I gathered my family to honor have pay respects to my father who passed away over Easter, April 14th, 2009. We gathered at the old Maronay Family plot in Sandy, OR to pay our final homage and say goodbye. The event was very solemn but very comforting too, we even had a change to spend time at the Tollgate Inn which had pictures of my ancestors on its rustic walls. The day was cold and misty but when we finally gathered, the wetness stopped and the wind stilled, seeming somehow appropriate for the activity we were commencing. My son actually behaved quite well for not knowing really what we were all doing there. My father's sisters read poems, while his wife and his son held her stoically and near the ended I provided glasses of bubble water all around for a final toast while singing an old Irish favorite...

The Parting Glass

All the money that e'er I had
I spent it in good company
And all the harm I've ever done
Alas,It was to none but me
And all I've done for want of wit
To memory now,I can't recall
So fill to me the parting glass
Goodnight and joy be to you all!

Fill to me the parting glass
And drink a health whate'er befalls
Then gently rise and softly call
Goodnight and joy be to you all!

Of all the comrades that e'er I had
They're sorry for my going away
And all the sweethearts that e'er I had
They'd wish me one more day to stay.
Since it fell into my lot
that I should rise, and you should not
I'll gently rise and softly call
Goodnight and joy be to you all!

But since it fell into my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I'll gently rise and softly call
Goodnight and joy be to you all!

So fill to me the parting glass
And drink a health whate'er befalls
Then gently rise and softly call
Goodnight and joy be to you all!

Here's to you Pops, i love you.......
